Organizers of the 12th International Conference on Geosynthetics (12 ICG) have announced a major scheduling change. The quadrennial signature event of the International Geosynthetics Society is moving a year to 17 – 21 September 2023 in order to avoid the covid-caused event congestion in 2022.

STATEMENT FROM 12 ICG

In a letter issued 9 April 2021, conference chairs Nicola Moraci and Daniele Cazzuffi (an IGS Past President) write:

“The health situation all over the world is still very critical resulting in travel restrictions, cancelled services and important meetings in-person and a near-halt of recreational and entertainment events…. Many similar events in the geosynthetics and geotechnical communities have been postponed and will be held in early or mid 2022: GeoAfrica-February 2022 in Cairo, GeoAsia-April 2022 in Taipei, XX ICSMGE-May 2022 in Sydney, resulting in a crowded overlapping year of conferences.

For all these reasons the Organizing Committee of 12 ICG has made the difficult decision to postpone the event to the period 17-21 September 2023, always in Roma.”

12 ICG TOPICS

With the deferral of the event to 2023, the organizers now have additional time to expand the conference program. The abstracts window will now be open until 28 February 2022.

Abstracts are invited in English on topics across the broad range of applications and sectors in which geosynthetics are used. Full details are available on the 12 ICG website. Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Sustainability with Geosynthetics
  • Geosynthetics Properties and Testing
  • Soil-Geosynthetic Interaction
  • Durability and Long Term Performance
  • Reinforced Walls and Slopes
  • Basal reinforced Embankments, GEC, piles and shallow foundations
  • Seismic design with geosynthetics
  • Unpaved and paved roads
  • Railways and other Transportation Applications

12 ICG VENUE

The Italian Chapter of the IGS has selected a truly impressive site for the conference. The Auditorium Parco della Musica is “situated at the heart of a budding cultural quarter in Roma,” write the co-chairs Prof. Nicola Moraci and Eng. Daniele Cazzuffi (Past President of the IGS). “Designed by the iconic Italian architect Renzo Piano … the auditorium is the biggest multifunctional complex in Europe and the second ‘cultural factory’ of the world after the Lincoln Center of New York. Moreover, the auditorium hosts an ancient villa dated 300 BC and a museum making the auditorium a real archaeological site.”
