The International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) North American Chapter (IGS North America) has announced the dates for GeoAmericas 2024, the 5th Pan-American Conference on Geosynthetics. The quadrennial event will be held 28 April – 1 May 2024 at the Sheraton City Centre Hotel in Toronto.
The gathering will bring together stakeholders in mining, transportation, energy, sustainability, and other sectors for technical exchange, networking, career development, and commercial connection.

GEOAMERICAS 2024 IN TORONTO

This marks the second time that IGS North America will host GeoAmericas. The last time was 2016 in Miami, which became one of the most successful regional conferences for the IGS. The Toronto edition will also be a first for the conference series and for major IGS conferences: It’ll be the first time it lands in Canada.
Toronto is one of the easiest cities in North America to access, with one of the highest volume of nonstop flights to it from international airports. This was one of the factors that helped organizers select Miami in 2016. Additionally, the highly rated and affordable entry process in Canada bodes well for another strong GeoAmericas conference.
On the technical side, Toronto is strategically close to Kingston and major research centers, such as Queen’s University and Royal Military College, both of which jointly operate the renowned GeoEngineering Centre. The region is also home to numerous geosynthetic manufacturers and design-influencing engineering houses.
Details on a technical tour have not been announced yet, but the proximity to the major reorientation of the mouth of the Don River, which has used a significant amount of geosynthetics, would seem to be an ideal learning opportunity. Toronto is currently investing billions to contract tunnels to divert sewage and stormwater away from the river in a project that will span 20 year
A conference website will launch shortly followed by calls for session proposals and abstracts.
