Landfilling in Escambia County, Florida is difficult for both space and cost reasons. Plans are now in place to begin “mining” a 20 to 25-year-old landfill and reuse the space created for more waste disposal. Roughly 77% of the old space is soil, they estimate. That soil will be tested and reused in future covers.
