A dispute between the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Washington State over who should manage the Bainbridge Island Superfund site has resulted in $3 million needing to be returned to the federal government. A deal on maintenance and long-term management could not be reached, thus forfeiting some of the money allotted in a recent stimulus package.
