30 August 2012 – Global professional services consultancy Coffey Geotechnics announces the appointment of Ron Morley as Principal Geotechnical Engineer in WA.
Ron, has over 35 years’ geotechnical experience for transportation systems, oil and gas projects, ports and harbours and commercial developments with global expertise gained from projects in the UK, Middle East, Far East, US and Australia.
Ron will be assisting Coffey clients with transportation projects including rail, highways, ports and urban tunnels and metros. He hopes to contribute significantly to Coffey’s geotechnical group in WA by adding to the range of projects and providing value to client projects.
He said: “I look forward to working with the Perth team of experienced engineers and engineering geologists and I see great opportunities for the group going forward with expanded services in transportation infrastructure.”
One of Ron’s notable roles was as lead foundation engineer for the Burj al Arab hotel, the first significantly tall building in Dubai and icon for the emirate. Ron spent a considerable part of his career with Atkins (UK) where he managed the Geotechnics and Tunnelling Division, one of the largest multi-disciplinary consultancies in the world, with a wide portfolio of major projects such as Gautrain (Johannesburg) and Crossrail (London) urban rail projects.
More recently Ron worked in Cape Town with a specialist ports and coastal consultancy involved in the design of new and upgraded harbours in Africa.
On a personal level, Ron is a keen golfer and amateur astronomer. He has contributed to public-outreach astronomy events in the Western Cape encouraging interest in science and engineering.
