The International Geosynthetics Society’s (IGS) Indian Chapter (IGS India) has moved forward on its initiative to publish the Indian Journal of Geosynthetics and Ground Improvement on a twice-yearly basis, with the first issue covering January-June and the second issue July-December.
In a mid-July letter, V.K. Kanjlia, IGS India’s Member Secretary, described the aim of the journal as “to provide the latest information in regard to developments taking place in the relevant field of geosynthetics” and to “improve communication and understanding regarding such products among designers, manufacturers and users.”
Mr. Kanjlia noted that this improved communication was especially needed between the textile and civil engineering communities in India.
The Journal is a welcomed edition to the geosynthetics dialogue in India, which has grown steadily with seminars sponsored by the Business Co-ordination House (BCH), the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), various university engineering programs, and IGS India.
India has also become home to a number of geosynthetic manufacturing and distribution locations, such as for highway retaining wall geogrids that are being incorporated in the country’s huge infrastructure undertakings. Geotextile tubes have also been widely used for shoreline stabilization, and geotextile separation materials are being used more with unpaved road design.
The Journal will be available both in print and online versions. The inaugural issue- includes articles on jute fibers for geotextiles, geocellular system behavior in cohesionless soil, the effect of geogrid reinforcement in saturated sand against liquefaction, bearing capacity of reinforcement geosynthetics in foundation beds, updates on events and opportunities in India, and more.
Submissions to the Journal are welcomed: technical papers, articles, case studies, news, etc.
