By most reports, 2012’s construction activity has been furious. Many manufacturers have advanced expansion plans initiated or announced in 2011, and those decisions seems to be paying off as the on-site services side of the industry (e.g., installation and CQA) also reports a significant increase in business. A number of companies have even hired on multiple new full-time employees and expect a considerable growth in seasonal work positions. But as the mid-year work dies down (at least enough to breathe), events take over the calendar.

Here are four events (3 in Europe, 1 in the US) Geosynthetica is looking forward to:

EuroGeo 5EuroGeo 5
16–19 September 2012
Valencia, Spain
www.eurogeo5.org

This quadrennial event marks the 5th European Conference on Geosynthetics and will take place 16–19 September 2012 in Valencia, Spain. Hosted by the Spanish Chapter of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) and held under the auspices of the IGS, this event will bring together a top-tier international engineering audience to discuss new developments in geosynthetic technologies and applications, to take place in short courses, to network in the exhibit hall, and much more. With short courses, major keynote lectures, and a huge array of international manufacturers, R&D specialists, and designers, EuroGeo is always an engaging event for geosynthetic professionals.

*RemTech 2012

RemTech 2012
19–21 September 2012
Ferrara, Italy
www.remtechexpo.com

RemTech follows immediately on the heels of EuroGeo, which makes these two events a perfect pair to stop at. Despite the change of country, travel between is minimal and worthwhile given the technical strength of both events. The international RemTech focuses on the vast growing body of information and projects regarding remediation technologies, reuse of remediation waste, landfills, sustainable development and other key topics. This has always had a good geosynthetic component. Training courses, technical sessions and a large exhibition highlight the annual RemTech gathering in Italy.

Global Waste Management SymposiumGlobal Waste Management Symposium 2012
30 September – 3 October 2012
Phoenix, Arizona
www.wastesymposium.com

The Global Waste Management Symposium (GWMS) serves as a forum for the presentation of both applied and fundamental research and case studies on waste management. This biennial 3-day event serves the community of designers, facility owners and operators, policymakers, and researchers from the U.S. and abroad who spearhead the waste management field. Events in this series have had a 25% international participation level, which makes it a fantastic discovery opportunity for US-based professionals who are not able to travel abroad at this time of year.

Waterproof Membranes 2012Waterproof Membranes 2012
11–13 December 2012
Düsseldorf, Germany

The 6th edition of AMI’s Waterproof Membranes conference will be held 11–13 December 2012 at Hotel Nikko in Düsseldorf, Germany. This annual gathering focuses on the exchange of technical information on geomembranes and roofing/architectural membranes. Research updates, market data, case studies and manufacturing advances are presented. Geosynthetica has long been a media partner to this event and has presented here. The dialogue with the participants has always been rewarding.
