The feature story looks back on the Montana Department of Transportation’s (DOT) "Subgrade Stabilization Research: Review of Geosynthetic Damage Analysis. The Western Transportation Institute (WTI) in conjunction with Montana State University recently conducted full-scale testing on geosynthetics used in subgrade stabilization applications for the Montana Department of Transportation.

Also, TenCate™ Geosynthetics North America has announced several design guides that are available its website. The applications that are included in the design guide files are: Geotextile Filter Design; Geosynthetics for Reinforced Slopes; Geosynthetic Reinforcement in Waste Containment Applications; and Designing with Paving Fabrics.

Two new case studies are included: Boston Logan International Airport and Puerto Nuevo Port Zone Terminal Facility. The Boston project focuses on base reinforcement and drainage for a new, 9300-ft taxiway. The Puerto Nuevo project looks at subgrade improvement for container storage zones in ports–one of the most vital elements of infrastructure that make ports economically viable.
