The Nigerian government has awarded contracts worth N174bn (USD $1.2 billion) to ameliorate the environmental problems in the Niger Delta region. The country’s Director of Erosion, Flood Control and Coastal Zone Management, Ministry of Environment–Bawuro Yahaya–says the contracts cover road construction, shoreline stabilization, erosion control and bridges. The expected timeline for work is 12 months.
