APWA - National Public Works WeekEach year since 1960, the American Public Works Association (APWA) has held a National Public Works Week (NPWW). The week celebrates the tens of thousands of people working to build and maintain infrastructure and encourages outreach endeavors on the part of both public and private engineers, government departments and agencies, media outlets and more.

In addition to events such as civic gatherings, essay contests, and publication of exemplary case studies and public infrastructure work, NPWW also encourages and promotes proclamations from mayors, governors and other public officials regarding future work that must be done.

This year, NPWW will be held 16-22 May.

Organizations interested in taking part can download a National Public Works Week How-To Guide. The document helps one create proclamations and solicit endorsements from government officials, develop media and press releases, write editorials and articles, and generate material for speeches.

ANNUAL POSTER

One of the ways APWA helps spur NPWW thinking and raise money for a variety of activities is through the sale of a thematic poster. For 2010, that them is “Public Works: Above, Below, & All Around You." The poster has been expertly designed by illustrator Harry Campbell.

Campbell’s well-known, distinctive work has appeared major publications such as Time, Newsweek, the New York Times, and others.

Copies of the poster may be purchased through APWA’s online store.
