The Interstate Technical Group on Abandoned Underground Mines (ITGAUM) is issuing a call for papers to be presented at its 8th Biennial Workshop. The workshop is scheduled for 21-24 September 2010 at the Hilton Hotel and Conference Center in beautiful downtown Scranton, Pennsylvania. Scranton is located in Pennsylvania’s historic anthracite coal mining region. This location has been chosen so that the ITGAUM workshop could be conducted in conjunction with the 32nd annual conference of the National Association of Abandoned Mine Land Programs (NAAMLP) which is being hosted by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation (DEP-BAMR) on 19-22 September 2010 also at the Hilton Hotel and Conference Center downtown Scranton, Pennsylvania.

The ITGAUM 8th Biennial Workshop will focus on the effects of mine development on transportation planning, design, construction and maintenance as well as other infrastructure development. Related topics pertaining to subsurface exploration and geophysical testing to identify potential hazards associated with underground mines will be addressed. Relevant case histories related to the impacts and remediation of underground mines will be presented. The NAAMLP conference and the ITGAUM workshop will complement one another and will share a joint day of concurrent field trips on September 21st and a shared day of technical presentations on September 22.
