EDANABRUSSELS – EDANA, the association serving the nonwovens and related industries, celebrated its 40th anniversary of serving the industry.

On 12 May 1971, an assembly of approximately 70 representatives from various companies across Europe, met in the Round-Hall of the Hotel Astoria in Brussels and agreed to set the foundation of what was then to be labelled the European Disposables Association (E.D.A.). In 1973 the association was named EDANA, described today as the international association serving the nonwovens and related industries.

At its beginning there were 29 founding companies, of which 7 have been continuous members of EDANA:

  • BFF Nonwovens now BFF Technical
  • Lantor BV (Firet BV)
  • Dexter INT. CORP. and Lystil OY now Ahlstrom
  • Kaysersberg S.A. – Jamont now Georgia-Pacific
  • SCA
  • Mölnlycke
  • PGI

Since its formation in 1971, EDANA has grown and evolved to become a modern industry association with a focus on Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Indian subcontinent, and a global influence and profile, reflecting the changing dynamics of the nonwovens industry.

Today, EDANA unifies the diverse interests of over 220 member companies in a unique vertically-integrated structure along the supply chain. The association , which had it right at the beginning but on a smaller scale, is today the single, powerful ‘Voice of the Nonwovens and Related Industries’, representing, protecting and actively promoting the common interests of nonwovens and their related industries.

“We provide a comprehensive range of services and supply our members with the information and data necessary for them to enhance their industry goals and performance. We will continue to provide leadership in order to create an environment beneficial to innovation and the sustainable and profitable growth of the industry through the active promotion of sustainable development, consumer interests and transparency,” said Pierre Wiertz, General Manager of EDANA.

In celebrating its 40th Anniversary, EDANA has created a short video to share with all stakeholders and members of the nonwovens industry, showing the changes the association has managed during the past 40 years and where it is today.

“We recognize that our achievements would not have been possible without the assistance and support of the voluntary work of the thousands of people from member companies – to whom we owe our deepest gratitude,” continued Wiertz.
