Syntec Geosynthetics29 September 2010 – When first introduced over a decade ago, Tendrain Triplanar geonets revolutionized the geosynthetic industry with their unique, void maintaining structure. The advanced performance provided by the patented triplanar technology gave designers the confidence to realize performance levels not available in conventional biplanar geonets so prevalent at the time. The demand for greater confidence in cutting edge designs forced manufactures to respond with higher performing geonets. While manufactures of biplanar geonets responded by simply increasing the thickness of their geonets, an entire line of triplanar geonets evolved. SynTec Tendrain, Tenflow, Tenseal and Roadrain are all unique triplanar structures developed around specific applications.

Within less than a year of operations, SynTec, a Baltimore based manufacture of triplanar geonets, is already living up to their motto. "Geosynthetics Evolved", proudly displayed in the company logo, is the essence of the SynTec philosophy. The latest result of the company’s evolutionary vision is Tendrain II, SynTec’s "Next Generation Triplanar". By utilizing state of the art extrusion technology, Tendrain II is able to offer improved durability and performance over currently available triplanar geonet.

For more than a decade, Tendrain has offered unmatched reliability and confidence to landfill owners and designers. Confidence in Tendrain led to advancements in landfill designs which depended on high performance composites. Today, researchers continue to assess and make recommendations on how we can design safer and more reliable landfills. "In developing Tendrain II, our goal was not to reinvent the triplanar, but to maximize and refine the unique features that make triplanar geonets so effective".  Through the utilization of state of the art extrusion technology, flow channels were made smoother for improved flow efficiency. Vertical and horizontal forming of the ribs takes advantage of geometric loading principles to provide greater compressive resistance and increased internal volume. Superimposing incorporates these features into a very stable, single, monolithic structure.

"In compatibility terms, Tendrain II is an upgrade from Tendrain. In capability terms, this is a major new product," said Giovanni Capra, CEO of SynTec. "Drainage geonets have been reinvented." Tendrain II takes landfill drainage to a new level: improved flow efficiency and increased durability provides for even greater reliability and safety in design.

Key new features include:

  • The evolution of a multidimensional structure into a channeled core
  • Performance and reliance of a pipe-like drainage
  • Less polymer higher performance, making it an environmentally friendly concept
  • Does not collapse under sheer loads like round strand biplanar
  • Designed with innovative drainage concepts built to outlast and outperform
