New Mexico Proposes Liners for Dairies

It’s estimated that 65 percent of the dairies in New Mexico have water pollution resulting from leaking manure lagoons. New proposals would require not only monitoring wells but pond liners for containment and groundwater protection. The dairy industry is opposing this rule, however, on grounds that it would make operation in the state no longer economically viable.
