The Australian Chapter of the International Geosynthetics Society (ACIGS) is offering a seminar on “Geosynthetic Filtration & Failutres” with renowned geosynthetics expert Dr. J.P. Giroud as the primary speaker. Warren Hornsey (Geofabrics Australasia) helps lead the seminar as well as provides an overview of geotextile testing in the region.
The first of the presentations has just taken place in Brisbane (Oct 26), but three more sessions are still available. Two key topics will be addressed during this full-day seminar that is being presented in different cities across Australia:
- Why filtration is a fundamental function of geosynthetics but often misunderstood, and how to properly design to prevent clogging of the geotextile or piping of soils in dam design, revetments, sub-surface drainage, etc.
- Learning from failures
Guest speakers vary by location but include Burt Look and Matthew Boyer (SKM), Lalith Welikala and Jason Jones (Queensland TMR), Prof. Malek Bouazza (Monash University), Mike Sadlier (Geosynthetic Consultants), Fred Gassner (Golder Associates), and Allan Garrard (SMEC).
Next sessions:
- Sydney, Oct 29
- Melbourne, Oct 31
- Perth, Nov 2
