GeoMontreal 2013When the Canadian Geotechnical Society (CGS) gathers for its 66th annual conference and exhibition, and the 11th in conjunction with the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH/CNC) Groundwater Conference, it will be with a diverse range of papers representing state-of-the-art research, exemplary projects, and state-of-the-practice updates to bring the multi-disciplinary geotechnical field together. GeoMontreal 2013 will take place 29 September – 3 October 2013 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Co-organized by CGS, IAH/CNC, and the North American Geosynthetics Society (NAGS), GeoMontreal will also be held under the auspices of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS).
This conference series continues to show extraordinary strength and steady growth. This year, another sold out exhibit hall has been announced, and more than 650 abstracts have been accepted. The paper titles from the event’s accepted abstracts have been posted. A small sample of the papers related to geosynthetics include:

  • “Emergency Shoreline Protection on Lake Manitoba using Geotextile Tubes,” Michael Simons, Maccaferri Canada Ltd.
  • “Field Leakage Rates of Geosynthetic Lined Facilities,” Fred Werner Gassner, Golder Associates
  • “Evaluation of Geosynthetics used to line hydrocarbon contaminated soils in Antarctica,” Daniel D Jones
  • “Field Scale Evaluation of a Waste Cover System Utilizing a Tubular Drainage Geocomposite and Exposed to a 100 years Rain Event,” Melissa Chappel, CTT Group
  • “New Leak Location Technology Introduced to China,” Abigail Beck, TRI Liner Integrity Services
  • “Benefits of an added enhanced polymer to Geosynthetic Clay Liners,” Bruno Herlin, terrafix Geosynthetics
  • “Measured and Predicted Pullout Behaviour of Geogrid Specimens Tested in a Transparent Granular Soil,” Richard J Bathurst
  • “Pullout Performance of Strip Reinforcement Used in Mechanically Stabilized Earth Walls,” Robert Lozano, Reinforced Earth Company

The full range of accepted abstract topics, including many others specifically focused on geosynthetics, may be found on the GeoMontreal website.
