Editor’s Note: The biomass market has developed steadily, both through government incentives and through alternative energy innovation. Geosynthetic materials have been utilized in affiliated dewatering applications, containment, floating covers, algalculture, and other issues in biomass. The EU biomass market is perhaps the world’s most advanced, and Germany, with one of the most integrated sustainable energy networks and strong environmental records, is a perfect host nation for the 22nd European Biomass Conference and Exhibition (EU BC&E 2014), to be held 23-26 June 2014 in Hamburg, Germany. – Chris Kelsey, Editor, Geosynthetica
EU BC&E 2014’s organizers report: 850 Papers Received from 62 Countries
The received abstracts cover the entire range of the biomass value chain and a well balanced share of the coverage of Conference Subjects with a particularly strong response to biomass potentials, and from biomass and bioenergy industry, in particular addressing biorefineries and biomass combustion.
Analysis confirms the trend towards further internationalisation with a strong participation from countries outside of Europe. The largest number of abstracts continues to be submitted from Germany, host country of the EU BC&E 2014, and underlines its strong position in biomass research and development.
- 25% of the industrially-oriented abstracts come from Germany and United States of America
- 16% of submitted abstracts come from Asia with China increasing significantly, 5 times more than the previous edition
- South America participated with +30% more abstracts
The abstracts are currently being reviewed and scored by the International Scientific Committeemade up of 140 leading research and industry experts from the global biomass sector.
David Baxter, European Commission, DG JRC and EU BC&E Technical Programme Chairman, coordinates the Scientific Committee to set up a well-balanced Conference programme of highest international standards. Kyriakos Maniatis, Industry Committee Coordinator will evaluate the industrially-oriented abstracts for inclusion in dedicated sessions within the programme.
To guarantee the quality of the programme, each abstract is scored by 3 independent reviewers before the topic organisers select the oral and visual presentations.
The Conference programme will be published in February 2014.
