During the 10th International Conference on Geosynthetics (10 ICG), the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) will hold its awards reception, with a few important changes.
In the past, the awards have often been handed out late in a conference, when much of the business has concluded. This year, IGS is moving its general assembly and awards presentations into the center of the action, with a September 24, 16:30 time slot. A cocktail reception will be held, followed by the conference gala.
The IGS Education Committee will debut a video that will be distributed online to help promote geosynthetic technologies and affiliated engineering issues. The video will focus on “Geosynthetics in Sustainability.”
Also, the first Young IGS Service Award will be handed out. The Society has grown substantially in the past four years, with strong corporate and individual member growth. A very successful young members session was held during EuroGeo 5 (Spain, 2012). The growth and interest among younger engineers in the IGS has continued since. For 10 ICG, not only will a special session be held but this unique award for young members has been established.
The 10th International Conference on Geosynthetics will be held 21 – 25 September 2014 in Berlin, Germany at the Estrel Convention Centre and Hotel.
International Geosynthetics Society Awards
The awards that will be presented in Berlin include:
- The IGS Award – The Society’s highest award, given to members for a substantive technical contribution to the geosynthetics discipline.
- Honorary Membership – An award to distinguish a person who has made a vast and long-term commitment to the Society and its aims.
- The IGS Service Award – Recognizes members of the IGS who have served the IGS in such a way as to significantly impact the IGS, its members and its aims.
- The Young IGS Service Award – To be presented for the first time, the IGS Young Member Service Award is given to a Young Member of the IGS for outstanding contribution(s) to the society.
Registration and Accommodation
The 10 ICG is being co-located with the German Geotechnical Society (DGGT) biennial Baugrundtagung conference. This synergy may make 10 ICG the biggest ICG to date, as the Baugrundtagung has 1200+ attendees. Simultaneous translation will be available in DGGT sessions and the official language of 10 ICG is English.
With the co-located events, hotel space is tight at the main venue—the Estrel Convention Centre—but the conferences have also arranged space in overflow hotels.
