In addition to their own chapter/national events, chapters of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) support quadrennial regional conferences. In 2016, multiple events will take place, bringing together the Americas, Europe, and Asia for their respective gatherings. These IGS Regional Conferences offer significant opportunities for technology transfer, project development, education, and industry networking.
The regional events for 2016 include:
- GeoAmericas 2016 (10 – 13 April 2016, Miami)
- EuroGeo 6 (25 – 28 September 2016, Istanbul)
- GeoAsia 6 (8 – 11 November 2016, New Delhi)
Immediate opportunities in exhibits/sponsorships and abstsracts are available. We summarize them here.
GEOAMERICAS 2016
Short courses are being finalized and first drafts of papers are being prepared by authors. The pre-sale window for IGS Corporate Members on exhibit space and sponsorships has ended; meaning, the event is fully open to the larger geotechnical engineering community for sponsorships and exhibit hall participation.
GeoAmericas 2016 is hosted by the North American Geosynthetics Society; managed by Minerva Technologies, Resources and Information; and held under the auspices of the IGS. The conference combines the strengths of IGS chapters from throughout North and South America.

EUROGEO 6
The Turkish Chapter of the IGS is bringing EuroGeo (last held in Spain 2012) to Istanbul, a historic city with a fast-growing infrastructure and which is situated in a geographically important juncture between Europe and Asia.
The Call for Abstracts for EuroGeo 6 has just opened (May 30). Abstracts are due by October 30. The topics of interest are broad, with contributions on sustainability, mining, CQA, hydraulic applications, transportation, and much more being sought.

GEOASIA 6
The practice of geosynthetics is gaining a steady foothold in India, with university engineering programs incorporating the materials regularly, an open push for adoption in regulations for transportation and waterways (e.g., bank stabilization), and more domestic seminars for practicing engineers. The country has an ambitious infrastructure plan and the geosynthetics community has a good opportunity to help establish a more durable, more economical, more sustainable infrastructure for the world’s biggest democracy.
The theme for GeoAsia 6 is “Geosynthetics for Infrastructure Development.” Roads, hydraulic structures, reinforcement, and ground improvement are some of the key sub-topics. Abstracts for the event will be accepted through July 31.
