The innovation trend for more application-specific enhancements to geomembranes continues. Solmax, which not long ago unveiled greater investment in its reflective/white geomembrane lines, has now released the HLR Series. These Hot Liquid Rated, patent-pending geomembranes utilize a special resin and additive package to improve the hydrostatic strength and long-term durability in atypical service temperature applications.

The company’s HLR documentation notes that the new formulation is motivated by long-term durability concerns in high-temperature operations, such as .
“The depletion rate of anti-oxidants rises as temperatures increase,” Solmax writes. “The innovative additive package used in the HLR Series allows this geomembrane to perform even at temperatures as high as 100°C (212°F) for extended periods of time.”
The documentation further indicates that HLR geomembranes retain 90% of their anti-oxidants after 90 days of full immersion in 80°C (176°F), per ASTM D 5322. This is, Solmax reports, the only polyethylene geomembrane to perform at this level to date.
Also of note, the HLR geomembranes, while unique in formulation, can be welded to traditional HDPE and LLDPE geomembranes.
