IGS TC-Reinforcement XVI ECSMGE IGS TC-ReinforcementThe registration deadline for a seat in the International Geosynthetics Society’s (IGS) reinforcement workshop at the 16th European Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (XVI ECSMGE) is August 31. On-site registration for this special workshop is not available. All participants must pre-register.
REGISTER ONLINE FOR THE WORKSHOP
The IGS reinforcement workshop fee is just £40.
The preeminent event in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering in Europe, XVI ECSMGE will be held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre in Scotland 13 – 17 September 2015. The IGS Reinforcement Workshop will take place from 10:00 – 17:00 on 13 September.
NOTE: This should not be confused with the full conference registration. The co-located offerings require their own registrations. Secure your XVI ECSMGE participation via the conference website .
REINFORCEMENT WORKSHOP PROGRAM
The IGS Technical Committee on Reinforcement (TC-Reinforcement) is heading up the workshop session, which the ECSMGE organizers have graciously provided space for. It is part of a new initiative for the IGS’s technical committees to orchestrate strong technical training programs to offer at industry events on a biennial basis.
The program for the TC-Reinforcement Workshop is divided into two primary sections: Geosynthetic-Soil Interaction and International Design Models for Reinforced Soil. The schedule:
13 September 2015
10:00 – 13:00
Geosynthetic-Soil Interaction

  • Lackner, Christian: Microscopic interaction effects of geogrid reinforced soil
  • Jacobs, Felix; Ziegler, Martin: Modeling geogrid pullout with an explicit interaction model
  • Moraci, Nicola: Pull-out testing and the related use in design of reinforced soil structures
  • Oliver, Tim; Jas, Hein: Understanding the mechanism of geogrid-soil mechanical stabilisation
  • Perkins, Steve: Influence of Design Variables on Layer Coefficient Ratio (LCR)
  • Vollmert, Lars; Weisemann, Ulrike; Perkins, Steve; Watn, Arnstein: “Magic effects” on geogrid-reinforced soil explained by triaxial testing at low strains
  • Zornberg, Jorge; Peng, X.: Evaluation of soil-geogrid interaction using transparent soil
  • Black, Jonathan A.; Tatari, Alireza: Interaction behaviour of soil and geogrid reinforcement in physical modelling

14:00 – 17:00
International Design Models for Reinforced Soil

  • Horgan, Graham: Design of geosynthetic reinforced slopes and walls in accordance with British standard BS 8006:2010
  • Bezuijen, Adam; van Eekelen, Suzanne: Reinforced structures, the Dutch design guideline and future work.
  • Naciri, Omar; Delmas, Philipp: Reinforced steep slopes and walls using Geosynthetics – National French Design Standards.
  • Bräu, Gerhard; Herold, Andreas: Experience with EBGEO for reinforced soil applications
  • Forsman, Juha; Koivisto, Kirsi: Finnish national design guidelines for georeinforcements following Eurocode – first experience with regard to the design of reinforced soil retaining walls
  • Cazzuffi, Daniele; Moraci, Nicola; Recalcati, Piergiorgio; Rimoldi, Pietro: Design of reinforced soil structures in static and seismic conditions according to Italian codes

IGS EVENTS AT XVI ECSMGE
The XVI ECSMGE has truly welcomed the IGS technical committees’ work. Not only has complimentary space been offered to the TC-R for its pre-conference workshop on September 13, ECSMGE attendees will have the option to attend a special TC-Barriers workshop on September 14 as part of the conference’s technical sessions.
The theme for XVI ECSMGE is “Geotechnical Engineering for Infrastructure and Development.” The British Geotechnical Association (BGA) and the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) are involved in the conference’s organization.
