The mining industry uses an enormous amount of geosynthetic materials to provide safer, stronger, more cost-effective yields. The mine engineering presentations at GeoAmericas 2016 provide a high-quality, comprehensive view of geosynthetics in mining: heap leach, crusher walls, access roads, storage yards, tailings management, facility closure, and much more.
GeoAmericas 2016 is the 3rd Pan-American Conference on Geosynthetics. All GeoAmericas activities will take place 10 – 13 April 2016 at the 5-star Loews Miami Beach Hotel on historic South Beach.
Mining activities at the conference kick off on April with a full-day short course on “Advances in Geosynthetics for Heap Leaching.” The course will be taught by mine designer and owner Mark Smith, M.Sc., P.E., D.GE (RRD International); Denys Parra, M.Sc., P.E. (Anddes Associados); and Abigail Beck, M.Sc., P.E. (TRI Environmental). Learn more.
In the days to follow, two dedicated sessions on mining will be held and feature topics such as:

  • Improvement of Soil Bearing Capacity Using Geocell System for the Impala Mineral Storage Yard (Peru)
  • Compressive Strength Study of EPS Beads and Bottom Ash Based Geomaterial
  • Modernization of an Oil Terminal Dock Infrastructure Using Geotextile Containment Technology: Concrete-Filled Geotextile Tubes
  • Effect of the Composition of Tailings on Their Dewatering Using Electrically Conductive Drain-Tube Planar Geocomposites
  • Construction of an Intake and Protection Structure in the Sogamoso River
  • A Bituminous Geomembrane for a Tailings Reservoir in Finland
  • ROM Pad Retaining Wall of 30 Meters High Reinforced with Polymeric Straps for the Primary Crusher Project at a Mine in Peru
  • The Use of Innovative Geosynthetics to Substantially Reduce Well Pad Construction and Maintenance Costs
  • Retaining Earth Wall for Platform of Primary Crusher
  • Containment and Dewatering of Mine Tailings with Geotextile Tubes at a Silver Mine in Mexico
  • The Use of Geosynthetics in Mining Applications

Numerous affiliated technical and keynote lectures will be part of affiliated GeoAmericas conference program too. Some of those highlights include the Geosynthetic Institute’s (GSI) Dr. Robert Koerner keynote address on “Lifetime Predictions of Exposed Geotextiles and Geomembranes”; newly elected member of the National Academy of Engineering and leading geosynthetic barriers in mining researcher Prof. Kerry Rowe on “Factors Affecting the Performance of GCLs Both Alone and in Composite Liners”; and GSE Environmental’s Boyd Ramsey, who will lead the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) Technical Committee on Barriers session on “Barrier Geosynthetics: Durability, Consistency, Performance, and Sustainability.”

MORE PAN-AMERICAN MINING OPPORTUNITIES
