The Kingstree, South Carolina manufacturing facility of GSE Environmental is about to get even busier. The company announced on August 22 that it is adding a new geonent and geocomposite manufacturing line to the site. The move, which will support production of GSE’s full suite of biplanar and triplanar products, is in response to surging market demand for engineered drainage solutions.
The South Carolina development is one of two significant moves in drainage for the company. GSE is also converting its Houston, Texas facility to enable production of the biplanar geonet and geocomposite materials.
“Much of the demand for drainage products is being driven by the coal ash regulations that were implemented in the United States by the EPA last year,” the company writes in its announcement. “GSE’s Kingstree plant is ideally located in close proximity to this market and others to facilitate delivery of geonet and geocomposite.”
GSE has been very active in the rapidly development coal ash management market. It has even produced products specific to the sector, such as the GSE Bentoliner Coal Ash Resistant GCL and the CoalDrain Geocomposite.
The geonet and geocomposite manufacturing upgrades to the Texas facility will provide more timely and more economical supply of drainage solutions to the Western United States and Mexico.

“This new manufacturing line will allow us to significantly expand our capacity and ensure that our product is available during times of high demand,” said Mark Leigh, GSE’s President of the Americas.
In addition to manufacturing drainage products, GSE Environmental is a global producer and marketer of geosynthetic lining materials and systems. Their geomembranes and affiliated engineering expertise are utilized in the containment and management of solids, liquids and gases for organizations engaged in waste management, mining, water, wastewater and aquaculture.
