IECA 2018 KEYNOTE

The International Erosion Control Association could not have hit upon a more important topic: wildfire response. Penny Luehring, USDA Forest Service Burned Area Emergency Response Program Leader, will deliver the opening keynote. Even as this announcement goes to press, another, severe wave of wildfires is affecting California. Gathering IECA’s community in Long Beach to learn from Luehring and exchange wildfire response technologies and strategies will kick off the conference in an inspiring way.

“The wildfires of 2017 [have been] monumental in their expanse, severity and cost – and the damage doesn’t end when the fire is out!” writes IECA. “Loss of vegetation and fire-induced water repellent soils can trigger increased runoff that cause erosion, flooding or debris flows many miles downstream of the fire.”

Luehring will focus on “Post-wildfire Remediation on Federal Lands.”
