EuroGeo 6 is nearly here! The quadrennial European Geosynthetics Conference, which was last convened in Spain (2012), will be held 25 – 28 September 2016 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Ljubljana is a fantastically relevant host location for a geosynthetics conference: the city is the European Green Capital of 2016.
The circumstances by which the event landed in Slovenia were not ideal. The Turkish Chapter of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) relocated the conference from Istanbul following security threats in Turkey; but, working with the event’s management group (Dekon Group) and with a very prepared and dedicated organizing committee, EuroGeo 6 was able to be booked at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre in less than a week. This gave event attendees, exhibitors, and sponsors months to adjust their travel and shipping itineraries.
The conference is even being held over the same dates as originally planned. Registration and accommodation information is here.
As such, EuroGeo 6 is ready to continue the event’s historical role in providing a robust and dynamic technical program and rich networking environment for the geosynthetics and larger civil engineering community.
Here are some of the highlights.
EUROGEO 6 SPECIALTY SESSIONS
The conference will house seven Specialty Sessions, which add considerably technical strength to the program. These sessions have been organized by well-known figures in the field and committees of the International Geosynthetics Society. They include:
- Geosynthetic Barriers
Organized by Kent von Maubeuge and Dr. Nathalie Touze-Foltz - Geosynthetics in Dam Construction
Organized by Dr. Eng. Alberto Scuero - Geosynthetic Reinforcement Applications
Organized by Gerhard Bräu - Geosynthetics in Road Construction
Organized by Prof. Erol Tutumluer - Surface Erosion Control and Drainage
Organized by Pietro Rimoldi - Behavior and Performance of Geosynthetics Under Earthquake Shaking
Organized by Prof. George Athanasopoulos and and Assoc. Prof. Ayse Edincliler - Managing Wrinkles, Bridging and Ballasting During Geomembrane Liner Installation
Organized by Dr. Ian D. Peggs, P.E., P.Eng
FULL TECHNICAL PROGRAM
The technical program was officially distributed by email on September 8. It includes 140+ presentations across four concurrent sessions throughout the conference days.
Major tracks include:
- Durability
- Embankments on Soft Soils
- Hydraulic Applications
- Landfills
- Lightweight Construction
- Pavements
- Properties and Testing
- Reinforced Embankments
- Reinforced Walls and Slopes
- Roads, Railroads, and Other Transportation Applications
- Seismic Applications
- Other Applications
Special session will be offered for Student Awards/Papers, posters, and IGS Awards.

EUROGEO 6 EXHIBITORS & SPONSORS
Approximately 70 companies are exhibiting at EuroGeo 6, including 7 platinum sponsors: TenCate, Bonar, CETCO, GSE Lining Technology, Istanbul Teknik Insaat, Geomas, Feicheng Lianyi Engineering Plastics.
The exhibit hall reflects not only the European geosynthetics community but the global practice, giving attendees ample opportunity to discuss the latest material advances and applications directly with the manufactures who are both influencing and responding to the practice.
