IGS News Volume 32, Issue 3 Published

The International Geosynthetics Society has published IGS News Volume 32, Issue. Here, in its conclusive issue for the 2016 year, the IGS promotes its new website, connects readers with the society’s new Secretariat Manager (Terry Ann Paulo), provides technical committee reports, revisits recent events, looks ahead to 2017’s opportunities, and much more.

IGS NEWS VOLUME 32, ISSUE 3 HIGHLIGHTS

• Out of the gate, the IGS News profiles some of the essential, long-in-the-works updates to its primary international website: geosyntheticssociety.org. The updated look and navigation has been supported by refreshed directories, a focus on IGS initiatives like Educate the Educators (and ways to get involved), members-only access sections and digital access to top-ranked geotechnical journals, a proceedings library stocked with 1800+ papers, updated society documents, and much more. “The website is a living document and will continue to evolve with the changing needs of the geosynthetics industry,” writes IGS Communication Committee member Warren Hornsey, Pr.Eng (Australia).
• The society has updated its structure, with IGS News Volume 32, Issue 3 including a useful chart that explains the organization’s differing types of committees and task forces.
• Terry Ann Paulo has taken over the Secretariat Manger responsibilities following Diana Davis’s retirement. Davis ran the society for six years, during which time it experienced substantial growth in chapters, events, and individual and corporate membership. Paulo bring to the IGS a strong background in association and events management work.
• Technical Committee reports have been submitted by Barriers (TC-B), Soil Reinforcement (TC-SR), and Hydraulic Applications (TC-H). These reports summarize interactions with geotechnical events, special sessions, and near-future goals.
• Major conference reports were submitted from EuroGeo 6 (Slovenia) and GeoAsia 2016 (India). An additional review has been contributed by attendees of the 3rd International Conference on Transportation Geotechnics (Portugal).
• The Hellenic (Greek) Chapter has updated its council.
• And in China, the IGS held an Educate the Educators event.
• The newsletter also forecasts some of 2017 and 2018’s most important events, including GeosPeru 2017, GeoAfrica 2017, and the 11^th International Conference on Geosynthetics (11 ICG – Seoul, Korea 2018)
