The 96th Transportation Research Board (TRB) conference has just wrapped up in Washington, DC. The event saw a record 14,000+ transportation engineers, policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders attend the multi-day standardization meetings and technical presentations. Among the items presented were numerous high-profile geosynthetics research initiatives.
This reminded us of videos posted by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in summer 2016. The videos profile geosynthetics research led by Dr. Jorge Zornberg at the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Zornberg is also the Immediate Past President for the International Geosynthetics Society.

Video #2 looks at “Centrifuge Technology for Pavement Design on Expansive Clay Soils.”
Each video is less than three minutes long and provides a concise explanation of the on-going projects, the key geosynthetics research questions, and implications for future transportation design (e.g., substantial cost savings and improved infrastructure service lives).
