ASTM International’s Committee D35 on Geosynthetics will present its highest honor, the ASTM Award of Merit, to C. Joel Sprague, senior engineer for TRI Environmental. The Award of Merit will be presented on Thursday, June 15 as part of the D35 Committee Meeting Week in Toronto. The prestigious award bestows upon him the honorary title of fellow. It is the standards organization’s highest recognition for individual contributions to standards development.
Sprague works out of the Denver Downs Research Facility (DDRF) in Anderson, South Carolina.
ASTM AWARD OF MERIT RECOGNITION
In a release on the Award of Merit, Committee D35 noted that Sprague was being recognized for his work with the committee and the geosynthetics industry in standards development, manufacturing audit protocols, and harmonization of testing standards.
Sprague, who has been a member of ASTM International for more than 30 years, has previously received the ASTM Award of Appreciation (2000), the GTJ Outstanding Article Award (2003), and the Richard S. Ladd Standards Development Award (2004).
In addition to ASTM International, Sprague is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Geo-Institute, the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) North America Chapter, and the National Society of Professional Engineers.
