When the Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI) convenes its Expo Asia 2011, two technical sessions on geosynthetics will be included. The event will be held 22-25 March 2011 at the new Marina Bay Sands Hotel and Exhibition Centre in Singapore. Session one is titled “Geosynthetic Applications for Infrastructure” and session two will be “Geosynthetic Materials for Environmental Applications.”
TRI/Environmental, Inc.’s Sam Allen will be the presenter.
The event, one of IFAI’s numerous international gatherings, was recently recognized by the US Commerce Department for its importance and awarded IFAI a $250,000 Market Development Cooperator Program Grant through the International Trade Administration (ITA).
The geosynthetics sessions are described as follows:
Geosynthetics Applications for Infrastructure
22 March 2011
13:00 – 16:30
This course will provide information on a wide variety of infrastructure applications such as mechanically stabilized earth structures, coastal protection and hydraulic engineering, water protection and storage, erosion control and sustainable engineering, and transportation pavement engineering. Learn how to develop specifications and education programs that will increase awareness of geosynthetics in your country. Developing your specifications to the world standards will make importing and exporting more viable. Relevant specifications and associated test procedures will be presented as well as case histories to demonstrate the effectiveness of geosynthetic solutions. The importance of quality installation and construction practices will be emphasized.
Geosynthetic Materials for Environmental Applications
23 March 2011
9:00 – 11:30
This course will provide a look at environmental applications including water management and protection, erosion control and sediment management and most significantly, waste containment and landfill technologies. A detailed description of each geosynthetic type and its use in these applications will be presented with background information regarding product manufacture, functional durability and design considerations.
