Military operations are often insensitive to historic structures and artifacts. But the US Department of Defense Legacy Program is helping train military personnel to recognize items and locations of historical and cultural importance, including through the construction of replica sites. An archaeologist advising the military has helped install geotextile caps over sensitive sites to better protect them.
