There are plans in Westport, Washington near Seattle to construct an open-air market with vendors housed inside old cargo containers. But the entrepreneur leading the move is also concerned about potential flooding in the future market’s marina area. A proposal has has been raised, and a presentation will next be made, to open debate on the installation of an artificial reef constructed of geotextile bags. The reef would serve as an erosion control barrier, but additional purposes might include habitat construction underwater and tourism.
