With ASTM Committee D35 on Geosynthetics to meet shortly in Indianapolis, we summarize here the most recent updates from the committee.
GEOMEMBRANES
4 June 2013 – ASTM International has reapproved D5721 – Standard Practice for Air-Oven Aging of Polyolefin Geomembranes. Developed by Committee D35.02, this practice covers a means for estimating the resistance of polyolefin geomembranes to thermal aging in the presence of air. Only the procedure for heat exposure is specified, not the test method or specimen.
4 June 2013 – ASTM International Committee D35 on Geosynthetics has reapproved D7006 – Standard Practice for Ultrasonic Testing of Geomembranes. This practice covers test arrangements, measurement techniques, sampling methods, and calculations to be used for nondestructive evaluation of geomembranes using ultrasonic testing.
GEOGRIDS & GEOTEXTILES
4 June 2013 – ASTM Committee D35 on Geosynthetics has announced work item WK42293 -Test Method for Proposed ASTM Standard Test Method for Determination of Geotextile Filter Clogging Potential by the Flexible Wall Gradient Ratio. Both the title and scope are in draft. The test method intends to cover performance testing to determine the clogging potential of soil-geotextile systems under unidirectional flow conditions.
28 May 2013 – ASTM Committee D35 on Geosynthetics has announced a revision to D7748/D7748M – Standard Test Method for Flexural Rigidity of Geogrids, Geotextiles and Related Products. The revision, with designation change, may be applicable to characterizing geogrid-geotextile composite products too.
GEOFOAM
28 May 2013 – ASTM International Committee D35 on Geosynthetics has announced a revision (with designation change) to D6817/D6817M – Standard Specification for Rigid Cellular Polystyrene Geofoam. This specification covers the types, physical properties and dimensions of rigid cellular polystyrene intended for use as geofoam; it does not cover installation and other related issues of design and construction.
OTHER / VARIOUS
17 April 2013 – ASTM International Committee D35 on Geosynthetics has announced work item WK41708 – Standard Test Method for Determining the (In-Plane) Hydraulic Transmissivity of a Geosynthetic by Radial Flow. This is a revision to existing standard D6574-00(2011). The revision pertains to an incorrect equation (Equation #4).
