Renowned researcher and educator, Dr. R. Kerry Rowe, P.Eng., has been announced as the featured presented during a multi-city seminar tour of Australia. The topic, “Multi-component Geosynthetic Clay Liners,” will feature research, design, and local case studies.

In the event announcement, the organizers note that “Multicomponent GCLs, incorporating a polymer coating, are a relatively recent development in the long history of GCLs. The application of a special polymer coating to the GCL extends the use of GCLs in many problematic sites. Research indicates that the integrity of the installed GCL is maintained over longer design lives than that of an uncoated GCL. Additionally the polymer coating may be textured to improve interface friction, allowing the use of steeper side slopes and increases in containment storage capacity [and greater] protection against leakage.”
Dr. Rowe’s extensive contributions to the field of geosynthetics over decades of barrier system research, much of which has been carried out at Queen’s University in Canada, presents an invaluable opportunity for engineers in Australia to learn from. (Also of note, though his career has taken him around the world, Dr. Rowe is from Australia.)
