Prof. Robert M. Koerner has come out with the Sixth Edition of Designing With Geosynthetics. As with prior volumes, it comes with helpful test questions after each chapter with answers provided at the end of the book. Currently, Koerner is professor emeritus of Drexel University.
The book contains the latest information in geosynthetic use and the mechanics (fluid and solid) involved in their use. Much of it is connected with Koerner’s current work as director of the Geosynthetic Institute. Its applications range from bioreactors to canals, ponds, earth dams and landfills. Though the subject requires much more space, the professor has compressed it into a well-illustrated volume.
The most interesting uses of geosynthetics remain in the area of fluid or semi-fluid retention or osmotic retardation. In this connection, the uses of quasi-solid (clay) lining for a variety of purposes are also given a place in the book. As a base textbook for beginning students or expert professionals, the book provides everything a reader needs for a comprehensive overview of geosynthetic design techniques.
