Waterproof Membranes 2018 will be held 5 – 7 November 2018 at the Maritim Hotel in Düsseldorf, Germany. Geosynthetics veteran Boyd Ramsey has been added to the program as the first featured speaker (following the traditional market focus open from the hosts AMI).
The international conference focuses on the market dynamics, technical innovation, and the manufacture, installation, and performance of membranes, both geotechnical and architectural.

WATERPROOF MEMBRANES 2018

The conference begins with an evening reception on November 5 followed by a 2-day program of presentations covering technical developments and market trends. An exhibition runs alongside the conference. The technical program is presented as a single track with each speaker being given roughly 20 minutes and 5 – 10 minutes for audience Q&A.
Boyd Ramsey will speak on “New developments in the geomembranes market” in the conference open session on November 6.
Other November 6 presentations of immediate interest to the geotechnical community:

  • Engineer Rudolf Hummel (AGRU) – “Thermoplastic concrete protective liners”
  • Christian Grimm (G Quadrat GmbH) – “Plastic sheet piling – Innovative solutions for geotechnical and hydraulic engineering”

On the November 7 program, Concrete Canvas’s Will Crawford will speak on “New applications and developments in armoured impermeable liners.”

While this year’s program is lighter on geotechnical topics than recent years, it certainly offers affiliated content, particularly for those in geosynthetics working on higher altitude business and material development issues. Other topics in the event include European market dynamics, smart reinforcements in membranes, development of flexible and durable materials, post-consumer materials in membranes, and so forth.
The organziers write:

The building and civil engineering industries face challenges relating to climate change and the demand for energy and water conservation. However, they also seek to introduce new designs and applications.  To meet these challenges, they often require innovative waterproofing solutions offering not only better waterproofing durability but also an improved environmental footprint together with competitive new solutions for the speed, efficiency and cost of installation.  Waterproof Membranes 2018 will provide a global forum for open discussion of the latest solutions, technology, performance and market trends within bitumen, polymeric and liquid membranes across all waterproofing applications.
