3rd Geosynthetics Middle EastThe Germany-based organization SKZ first brought its renowned “Lifetime of Geosynthetics” seminar to Dubai in 2008. Working with BMC Gulf, the event has transitioned into a much-needed geosynthetics event that fills a void in the region’s professional development opportunities.

SKZ, in cooperation with BMC Gulf, held the 2009 edition–2nd Geosynthetics Middle East International Conference–again in Dubai. Registrants came from around the world: India, USA, Canada, Romania, South Africa, Germany, Luxemburg, Italy, UAE, Egypt, Iran, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Lebanon, Austria, Syria, UK, Hungary and other locales.

This year, 9-10 November 2010, the 3rd Geosynthetics Middle East will be held at Le Meridien Hotel in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Reda Ashkar, BMC Gulf, will serve as conference chairman. A call for presentations has been issued and abstracts are due to the conference manager, Irina Bender of SKZ by 15 April 2010.

TOPICS

The main themes of the 3rd Geosynthetics Middle East are Waterproofing Systems and Reinforced Structures. Six primary areas are sought:

  • Polymer/ Product Developments — Geopipes, Geomembranes, Waterproofing Membranes, Geotextiles, Geogrids, Geocomposites, Geocells, Clay liners, Glassgrids
  • Applications/ Case studies/ Projects — Landfills, Reservoirs, Tunnelling, Mining, Roofing, Foundation Waterproofing, Bridge Abutments, Road Construction
  • Installation/ Joining/ Welding/ Sealing
  • Design/ Lifetime/ Weathering/ Durability/ Sustainability
  • Testing/ Quality Assurance/ Certification
  • Regulations/ Standards

Examples of presentations from last year include “Application of Geosynthetics in GCC Countries,” “Geogrid reinforced bridge abutments,” and “Thoughts on determining time to end-of-life (EOL) of installed exposed HDPE geomembrane liners.”

Among the many benefits of participating in the event: access the waterproofing market in the Middle East; increase your competence and expand your business; get an up-to-date view on the latest trends and applications; learn how to choose the right material; and create new networks and share industry experience.
