26 January 2011 – SOPREMA is proud to announce that its factory located at 1675 Haggerty Street, is the first site in Canada and first of the SOPREMA group to have successfully completed the certification process for EN 16001 Standard – Energy Management Standard (energy efficiency). Offered by the BSI group, a world-leading independent professional services organization, this standard ensures that the company complies with the most current practices in terms of energy management.
The obvious next step in terms of environmental efforts expended by the company, the EN 16001 Standard, adds to the ISO 14001 certification which already demonstrated SOPREMA’s intent on becoming a world-leader in sustainability.
Underpinning this certification is the ENER Vision system. Designed by the company, it’s a two-component system. The first consists in recreating a theoretical model of the factory in relation to its energy consumption, allowing, among other things, to factor in investment impacts on the factory’s energy consumption, acquire knowledge of site’s energy dynamics and target priority actions. The second component amounts to a real-time visualization interface fabricated internally and unique to SOPREMA. This interface allows real-time monitoring of the energy consumption of the Drummondville factory’s main facilities (electricity, natural gas, compressed air, thermal oil and cold water) and archiving of this data for long-term analysis.
The company expects to implement the ENER Vision system in every SOPREMA site in North America, enabling it to improve energetic mastery of its manufacturing processes and save energy and money. Of course, the company hopes this implementation leads to the EN 16001 certification for all of its North American sites and eventually, those located worldwide. In fact, the next SOPREMA site to receive this accreditation will be that in Val-de-Reuil, France.
Lastly, SOPREMA wishes to thank the entire team at Drummondville’s Industrial Unit who developed and implemented the ENER Vision system at the Haggerty Street site.
