In fact, Premier Greg Selinger made the announcement at the Riverton, Manitoba headquarters of ErosionControlBlanket.com. CEO Mark Myrowich, who also heads Verdyol Biotic Earth, gave Premier Selinger a tour of the facility. Approximately $4 million was announced for funding to be committed this year. Learn more here.;

Mining Opponents Want Higher Bonds, Better Engineering

0
Mining operations in New Zealand are underbonded, many are complaining. Opponents of mining activities are even citing the low bonding issues as evidence of poor enviornmental controls. One project that has been cited is the Newmont Waihi Gold's final bond on the Martha open pit mine. It was capped at $10 million. Watchdogs contend it should have been $100 million, and if it had been it would have had more stringent controls such as geosynthetic liners on the tailings dam. It only has clay. Any environmental damage to the site greater than $10 million will have to be paid for by New Zealand government agencies. Learn more here.;

A Sad State of Affairs

0
Debate over a Weyerhaeuser landfill proposal in Washington state exemplifies the huge gap in landfill technology understanding between the industry and the public. One public opponent has contended he's pushed a Bic pen through a landfill liner. Not only would one not be allowed to do this on a site, but it would not be possible given the heavy-duty geomembrane used in modern lining systems. Objection is fine; but accuracy and facts are better. Learn more here.;

Precision Geosynthetic Laboratory International Announces New Department

0
Precision Geosynthetic Laboratories International (PGLI) has added new services to their Thermal Analysis Capabilities. A new department has been added for Differential Scanning Calorimetry that will be full service DSC. In addition to the normal DSC methods Modulated and High Pressure DSC have been added. Differential Scanning Calorimetry is a thermoanalatycal technique that measure a difference of heat flow observed between a sample and a reference as a function of temperature. The main advantage of DSC is studying the transition of the material such as melting, crystallization or glass transition temperature. Learn more.
