FEMA: Geotextiles in Erosion Control and Embankment

0
In April 2009, the State of Arkansas experienced severe storms and flooding, affecting 37 counties and causing damage to infrastructures. This resulted in the 16 June 2009, presidential disaster declaration, DR-184, for Public Assistance. In Lafayette County alone, four roads were washed out, necessitating repairs and mitigation. A specialist recommended using a geotextile to stabilize the embankment and make the road more resilient once repairs were completed. Read more.

Impact, Weight and Anti-Corrosion Coatings for Pipelines

0
The pipeline industry is continuing to grow worldwide to provide increased security of energy and water supply, and with hostile environmental conditions in many locations, the pipeline protection market is expanding to meet the requirements. Noru Tsalic, Consultant at Applied Market Information, has valued the pipe coating market at around 5 billion euros in 2009 and predicts expansion to 6.5 billion euros by 2013. Tsalic was speaking at the February 2011 annual AMI conference on Pipeline Coating in Vienna, Austria. Read more.

Flex and Protect: Controlling Scour at Pipe Outlets

0
Controlling scour at storm water pipe outlets can be difficult based on the turbulent nature of the discharging storm water. Take into account the often odd-shaped outlet dimensions, and product selection and installation can be difficult. Until recently, rock was used as the main source of scour control at pipe outfalls, but rock can be limiting in that it cannot offer a vegetated design and is often difficult to maintain. North American Greens ShoreMax™ soft revetment scour protection mat was introduced recently with the intended use of providing high-performance supplemental scour protection. Learn more.

Inland Empire

0
British Columbia's Bruce Swift entered one of the fastest growing markets well-before it became more acceptable to diners: inland aquaculture. While ocean-based aquaculture operations have been popular, they have also produced significant disease issues with fish. Inland aquaculture, which commonly uses tanks and lined ponds, has generally been more resistant to these problems. Swift's coho operation is a valuable success story. Learn more here.;

Kansas City, Missouri, to Spend $2.5 Billion to Cut Sewer Overflows
