Wind Energy Investment Fading in Economy

0
The American Wind Energy Association has announced that with only 700 MW added in the second quarter of 2010, wind power installations to date this year have dropped by 57% and 71% from 2008 and 2009 levels, respectively. Manufacturing investment also continues to lag below 2008 and 2009 levels. AWEA and a broad coalition of renewable energy, labor, utility, and environmental organizations are calling on Congress with an urgent appeal to put in place a strong national renewable electricity standard to spur demand for renewable energy, attract manufacturing investment, and save and create jobs. Dreding and Geotextile Tubes in Joensuu Renovation Project (Finland)

0
The city of Joensuu in the eastern part of Finland is transforming an old contaminated sawmill area near the city centre into an up-to-date housing district. Before the building can start, the whole area must be thoroughly restored after more than a century of heavy industrial useage. Among the work being performed, contaminated sediment is pumped into geotextile tubes to separate the sediments from the water. Sediments are left to dry for about a year and will then be transported for further processing to the nearby waste treatment plant. A small marina will be built to the storage bay area later on.
