The UK-based Earthquake Engineering Field Investigation Team (EEFIT) has made 25 years of earthquake reconnaissance reports available online. Practitioners, researchers and students can download free the field reports from the EEFIT missions to 22 earthquake-affected areas spanning over 25 years. Reports for 18 of these event missions were previously only available though hard copy purchase. It is planned that all future reports will also be available free online. Learn more here.;

Tensar International Opens New Area Sales Office in Dallas to Serve Central United States

Tensar International Corporation, a leader in geosynthetic soil reinforcement and stabilization, has announced the opening of a new sales office in the Dallas suburb of Frisco, Texas. The office will support regional customers, distributors and a team of Tensar sales staff throughout the central United States, including Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, southern Illinois, Nebraska, Iowa, North and South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin and the upper peninsula of Michigan. Geosynthetic Standards and the Tower of Babel

In the most recent newsletter from the Geosynthetics Interest Group of South Africa (GIGSA), Maccaferri's Edoardo Zannoni (who chairs GIGSA's subcomittee on specifications) writes on the role of ISO in harmonizing international terminology and cross-border understanding of geosynthetics. Zannoni notes that the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) has established multiple committees to bring South Africa's standards practices with geosynthetics in line with ISO. ASTM Unveils Updated Website

ASTM International has relaunched its website with nice new look. One of the most-welcomed additions to the update is a new navigation bar arrangement. With the vast amount of sectors ASTM's consensus-oriented standards committees are involved in--including our favorite, Committee D35 on Geosynthetics--the cleaner navigation tool is welcomed. Also of note, rotating news stories have been added to the front page, the site search tool has been improved, and the "My Committees" page has been streamlined. Precision Geosynthetic Laboratory International Announces New Department

Precision Geosynthetic Laboratories International (PGLI) has added new services to their Thermal Analysis Capabilities. A new department has been added for Differential Scanning Calorimetry that will be full service DSC. In addition to the normal DSC methods Modulated and High Pressure DSC have been added. Differential Scanning Calorimetry is a thermoanalatycal technique that measure a difference of heat flow observed between a sample and a reference as a function of temperature. The main advantage of DSC is studying the transition of the material such as melting, crystallization or glass transition temperature. Learn more.
