Geo-Frontiers 2011 Call for Papers

The North American Geosynthetics Society (NAGS), the Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Geo-Institute (GI) have signed an agreement to co-organize Geo-Frontiers 2011. The last Geo-Frontiers was held in 2005 in Austin, Texas. The 2011 edition will be held at the Sheraton-Dallas Hotel 13-16 March 2011. The event is the second Geo-Frontiers, the first of which was held in 2005 in Austin. The Call for Proposals has been issued. In addition to traditional paper sessions, this call seeks proposals for activities that will allow professional colleagues to share their expertise through panel discussions, hands-on workshops and short courses; and “show-and-tell” their stories in field demonstrations and technical tours. Gulf Plastics Sector to Boom

According to latest reports, the polyethylene (a plastic polymer) production capacity in the Middle East's Gulf countries will increase from 10.7 million tonnes in 2009 to 21.5 million tonnes by the year 2015, an increase of slightly more than 100 per cent. Likewise, the production capaciy of polypropylene (another polymer) will increase from 4.8 million tonne in 2009 to 9.5 million tonne by year 2015, an increase of 98 per cent. Learn more here.;

The Lake Erie Energy Development Corporation (LEEDCo) has selected a team of three companies to develop an offshore wind farm on Lake Erie. It will be the first offshore wind farm built on a fresh water lake in North America. Increasingly, wind farm installations are utilizing geosynthetics. Inland sites use reinforcement geosynthetics for access roads and turbine pads. Off-shore wind farms are beginning to use geosynthetics for stabilization and scour protection of footings. Royal Ten Cate listed as option fund on NYSE Liffe

As of Tuesday, 29 March 2011, Royal Ten Cate will be listed as an option fund on NYSE Liffe in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Each option will represent 100 shares in Royal Ten Cate. These new options will expire on the third Friday of the contract month and will have initial lifetimes of one to nine months. The introduction of options on Royal Ten Cate shares will enable both investors who want to anticipate expected movements in the share and those who own Royal Ten Cate shares to benefit from the opportunities that stock options offer. The ticker symbol that NYSE Liffe is using for TenCate on the options market is: 'TCT'.
