We missed this in the news two weeks ago, but it's worth sharing. Propex Inc. has gifted the village of Lake Delton in Wisconsin $100,000 worth of erosion control products to help with some key projects. Propex's ArmorMax system will be used by the village, especially with steep slopes. The product has proven itself in New Orleans' infrastructure repair. This is a fantastic gesture on Propex's part. Key Opportunities in Geosynthetics

While we await the open of Geosynthetics 2009 and to report all the news and innovations that are revealed from the gathering, we want to take a moment to remind our readers of a number of key opportunities coming up in the geosynthetics community. Of note, the Geosynthetic Materials Association (GMA) is holding another GMA Lobby Day in Washington DC; T-CLIC returns with more training, short course, and certification events; and the Geosynthetic Institute is offering public and private-focused infrastructure courses.

D35 on Installation Damage

ASTM Committee D35 on Geosynthetics has revised D5818, "Standard Practice for Exposure and Retrieval of Samples to Evaluate Installation Damage of Geosynthetics." It is available as D5818-11. This practice covers standardized procedures for obtaining samples of geosynthetics from a test section for use in assessment of the effects of damage immediately after installation caused only by the installation techniques. The assessment may include physical testing. This practice is applicable to any geosynthetic. Learn more here.;

D35 on Tensile Properties of Geogrids

The Minnesota Erosion Control Association (MECA) seeks presentations for its 23rd Annual Erosion Control and Stormwater Management Conference and Trade Show, to be held 3-4 March 2011 at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center in Plymouth, Minnesota. Two types of presentations are being solicited: Local projects completed for stormwater management or erosion and sediment control; New, innovative products for stormwater management or erosion and sediment control. Project presentations will be 15-30 minutes long. Product presentations will be 10-15 minutes. A proposed new ASTM International standard will provide a test method to give index performance for both established and new geogrids, which are products used for the reinforcement and stabilization of roads, railways, airports, docks and other trafficked areas.
