Following the press release of 15 November 2010, Ten Cate Geosynthetics Asia announces the successful closing of the acquisition of the geosynthetics activities of Emas Kiara Industries Berhad, a publicly listed company based in Rawang, Malaysia. The completion of this transaction provides TenCate Geosynthetics with a significantly larger position in the supply of geosynthetics solutions to the Southeast Asian markets.

DOT Utilizing RSS Bridge Abutments

Much has been promoted in the past few years regarding the use of geosynthetic reinforced soil system apporach to bridge abutment designs. In series of notes on future projects issued by the US Secretary of Transportation, it was announced that the Puerto Rico Highways and Transportation Authority will use $95,000 to replace Bridge No. 1828 on PR 140 in Barceloneta using geosynthetic reinforced soil system technology to minimize traffic disruption, cut construction time and reduce cost by 20-30%. Inflatable Dams Helping New Zealand

An inflatable dam has been set up to allow engineers to inspect a quake-damaged bridge in New Zealand. The 50m-long dam is filled with river water and holds back water from the bridge foundations. RST Environmental Solutions project manager Graham Brown said it was only the third time this particular product (the Aquadam) has been used in New Zealand. The Netherlands-based Royal Ten Cate has announced a net profit increase of 92% in 2010. The Geosynthetics and Grass sector played a substantial role, with EBITA having increased by 87%. With its Georgia-based American opertaions leading the way, the company reports seeing recovery in the American geosynthetics market, which in terms of size is Ten Cate's most important. In its release, Ten Cate notes that, "The improvement resulted from an increase in the number of infrastructure projects and intensive targeting of the South American market. Nonwoven fabrics manufacturer Fiberweb has launched a deeply discounted rights issue to raise £25.4m gross to help to finance acquisitions. Fiberweb is well within its loan covenants but the extra cash, ShareCast writes, will give it more flexibility with bolt-on acquisitions. Parking Lots as Retention Ponds

The Performing Arts Center in Pinellas Park, Florida is sporting two brand new parking lots designed to be friendlier to the environment and more efficient with the use of city property. Porous pavers with geotextile separation fabric and sand underlayers are being used. As the project manager notes, this type of low impact design essentially uses the parking lot like a retention pond. Stormwater infiltrates straight through to the water table rather than runs off. Tensar Smooths Fans' Road to Euro 2012

The road will give access to the new Miejski Stadium in time for its role in the UEFA Euro 2012 football finals.
