12 January 2011 – CETCO®, a wholly owned subsidiary of AMCOL® International Corporation, has announced the addition of Dennis G. Grubb, Ph.D., P.E. to the newly created dual Directorship of Environmental Technology and Sustainable Geotechnics. In this role, Dr. Grubb will expand CETCO’s capabilities to assist clients with leveraging opportunities related to the beneficial reuse of industrial byproduct and recycled materials. Surprisingly, several of these opportunities pertain to environmental remediation itself, and these activities will be offered in conjunction with other company and construction services.

“Dennis was championing the concept of beneficial reuse years before nearly anybody else had even heard of it, and he is indisputably one of the most knowledgeable and experienced experts in this emerging arena,” said Archie Filshill, Ph.D., President of CETCO Contracting Services Company. “His diverse geotechnical, environmental and chemical engineering skills will add a new dimension to our services that is truly unique in the industry, allowing us to evaluate sites in a way that saves our clients money and provides a foundation for green and sustainable construction. We are delighted to welcome him to our team.”

“What I have come to realize over the years, is that beneficial use is akin to the new product development process, and the many researchers and consultants practicing in this area simply cannot make the leap to full-scale implementation from an organizational perspective because they lack the construction element. CETCO is one of the few companies that can do it all, from the initial concept all the way through to turnkey construction,” said Grubb. “Many beneficial use applications stall after successful field trials–AMCOL and CETCO can continue on, allowing our clients to realize full-scale implementation or commercialization of their beneficial use application, including sustainable geoconstruction. Re-thinking materials use and management will potentially allow our clients to reduce or reverse cash flows associated with residuals in ways never before possible.”

According to Filshill, Grubb is also already meeting with clients on green/sustainable remediation applications.

“We welcome every opportunity to bring cutting edge expertise to bear against real world client remediation challenges,” he said. “We look forward to pushing the envelope in what is possible in sustainable geotechnics and beneficial reuse to the benefit of our clients, both existing and new.”
