The Environmental Research & Education Foundation (EREF) and the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) are holding the Coal Ash Management Forum July 21 and 22 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The event features a 1.5-day technical program that will take participants through a comprehensive range of topics:
- Perspectives on CCR Management
- Current Research on Coal Combustion Residuals
- Geotechnical and Other Design Considerations
- Transportation Considerations/Onsite vs Offsite Management
- Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) & Odor Management Issues
- Coal Generation/Management
- Leachate Management
- Ash Basin Closure Technologies and Moisture Management
- Case Studies
As rules for coal combustion residual handling and storage have changed, including the requirement to line storage cells with the same stringency of municipal solid waste landfills, the Coal Ash Management Forum provides significant opportunities for geosynthetics professionals. These include opportunities to learn, promote, and network.
EREF and NWRA, with the support of numerous high-level sponsors, are offering this event for only $250 (or $35 government rate), making it among the most accessible engineering conferences. An opening night reception is included.

COAL ASH MANAGEMENT FORUM PROGRAM
The conference aims to be a forum where both the utility and waste management sectors can share ideas, research, operations strategies and case studies on how to manage coal ash beneficially or in a landfill setting. Opportunities to better understand challenges in how coal combustion residuals on the power generation side will be discussed as will experiences from existing landfill owners and management companies.
The forum is geared towards engineers, landfill managers, ash managers, consultants, and coal ash management solution suppliers.
