The exhibition area, already extended, has sold out and the international group of expert speakers are ready. The fifth edition of Geosynthetics Middle East, organized by SKZ and being held again under the patronage of Abu Dhabi Municipality, will unfold 19–20 November 2012 at the Rocco Forte Hotel in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
This year’s speakers hail from the UAE, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Malaysia, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Italy, United Kingdom, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and Canada. They’ll address the transportation infrastructure and environmental solutions theme through case studies, research, new materials and application approaches, and direct interaction with the attendees.
The conference has grown steadily each year, but a notable addition to this year’s audience will be students. For the first time, and as part of a larger, regional objective to educate the field at an earlier point of contact with geosynthetic materials, civil engineering students from the Abu Dhabi-based Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) will have the opportunity to attend the event and learn directly from these field experts.
“The successful performance of geosynthetic materials heavily depends on the expertise of the design engineer and the installer on site,” says Reda Ashkar, conference chairman. “By inviting students from UAE Universities we would like to ensure, that the future generation of engineers in the Middle East has the opportunity to discuss geotechnical matters directly with the leading industry experts from around the globe and understand the importance of sustainable engineering in infrastructure projects.”
