The winter meeting for ASTM Committee D35 on Geosynthetics will include a couple special events. The first of which is a Geosynthetic Research Institute (GRI) / D35 joint workshop on durability. The second of which is an exploratory meeting on geocell standardization.
All committee and sub-committee meetings and the workshop will be held at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas between 27 and 29 January 2010. The workshop–"Geosynthetic Material Durability: Field and Laboratory Experiences"–will be held on 29 January. Presenter and topic information will be available soon. We encourage all in the geosynthetics community to take part not only in the ASTM discussions but in this special symposium opportunity.
The workshop program can be found here:

GEOCELL MEETING
On 27 January, Committee D35 will hold the "Geocell Standardization Exploratory Meeting" between 10:30 am and 12:00 pm.
This is a fascinating opportunity. Geocell products have been used successfully for a variety of applications for decades. However, many regulators, specifiers and users have found significant market variability with regard to product characterization, market specifications and product quality. The range of geocellular system products is expanding every year.
In this important inaugural meeting, all interested individuals will be invited to attend and contribute to the discussion of potential D35 standardization efforts.
D35 reports that two major producers will be on hand to present case histories, answer product questions and discuss needed standardizations.

Shear Strength Test Result Interpretation
Wednesday, January 27, 3:00 – 4:00 pm
In response to a wealth of significantly different shear strength specifications and result interpretation practices, a new effort has been initiated to draft a Standard dealing with interpretation of interface friction test results. Contributors to this important effort are sensitive to those that do not desire a mandatory and authoritative standard ignoring or negating site-specific engineering judgment. Interested parties are invited to attend and provide input into this developing Standard Guide.
Subgrade Reinforcement
Thursday, January 28, 8:00 – 9:00 am
This ongoing standardization effort meets again to review cyclic tension testing and the recently completed ASTM D 7499, Geosynthetic-soil resilient interface shear stiffness.
