Congratulations are due to David E. Daniel, Ph.D., P.E., Dist.M.ASCE, NAE, University of Texas at Dallas. Prof. Daniel has been recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) OPAL Awards for his excellence in advancing civil engineering education.
Established in 1999, the Outstanding Projects and Leadership (OPAL) Awards provide prestigious recognition of outstanding civil engineering leaders in five categories: Education, Construction, Design, Government, and Management. The awards honor lifetime accomplishments and achievements that have made significant differences in these areas.
Prof. Daniel has long been associated with geosynthetics research and education.

- Man-Chung Tang, Ph.D., P.E., Dist.M.ASCE, NAE, of T.Y. Lin International for innovation and excellence in civil engineering design. Category: Design.
- John W. Morris II, Lt. Gen. (ret.), P.E., F.ASCE, NAE, of J.W. Morris Ltd. for demonstrated administrative skills leading to the completion of significant public works projects and/or programs. Category: Government.
- Robert D. Nichol, P.E., F.ASCE, of Moffatt & Nichol for demonstrating exceptional management skills in his/her professional career. Category: Management.
The awards will be presented in a special ceremony on 25 March 2010 at the Renaissance Hotel Washington.
