In this its 6th edition, the Academy will be hosted by Swerea IVF with the opportunity to visit their facilities and selected departments of Chalmers University.

The Nonwovens Research Academy is the premier event for R&D specialists, offering valuable insights into the future of nonwovens, and highlighting current studies and innovative developments across the nonwovens and related industries. The event brings together an interdisciplinary group of academics, students, researchers, scientists and engineers and providing a forum to present and discuss research studies relevant to the nonwovens and related industries.

Releasing the programme of speakers and their topics, and opening registration to the industry, EDANA General Manager Pierre Wiertz stated, “EDANA believes that innovative research and close connections between industry and academia are critical to the successful growth of the nonwovens and related industries, and the links created with both promising young students and established scientists will help to meet the needs of company’s R&D departments well into the future. The Nonwovens Research Academy promotes this fundamental understanding and knowledge of the science and technology of nonwoven fabrics, products and processes as well as related disciplines.”

The 2012 NRA offers an outstanding programme with 20 papers from speakers from Europe, Asia and the Americas covering:

  • Modelling & testing
  • Micro and nano fibre-based webs
  • Advances in absorption technologies
  • Sustainability (eco-efficient functionalisation of nonwovens)
  • Renewable/bio-based materials
  • Processing and product performance enhancement

To highlight the efforts by students in the nonwovens and related fields, the EDANA nonwovens R&D student grant has been awarded to 11 students, and covers their travel, accommodation, meal expenses and registration to the Academy. In addition to covering costs for the event, students selected have the opportunity to share their findings and experience at a poster session, giving visibility during the whole event.

Included in the programme is also a visit of the research facilities of Swerea IVF and Chalmers University on the morning of 19th April, with places limited to 50 visitors to ensure full access and engagement during the visit. In addition, the evening cocktail and dinner sponsored by EDANA member companies Mölnlycke and SCA, gives students, researchers and industry experts alike the chance to network and share their experience in a relaxed setting.
